A Volunteer Firefighter Receives Historic Full Face Transplant

We are so happy to share this awesome story with you. A firefighter who was severely burned when a burning roof collapsed on him in a rescue search in 2001 received the most extensive and complex face transplant ever performed. The transplant covered most of the skull and neck. The surgery was performed in August, and the patient, Patrick Hardison, is still undergoing physical therapy at the hospital. The surgery was made by the doctor Eduardo Rodriguez, who led the surgical team that made transplant. He said the surgery was the most extensive one ever undertaken successfully in terms of the amount of material transferred.

The complete process was 26 hours and almost 100 professional medical persons took a part of it. They gave Hardison a new face, scalp, ears, ear canals and some portions of the jaw bones, cheeks and nose. The preparation before the surgery started a year ago said doctor Rodriguez.
Below you can see a video from the satisfied patient and the successful surgery.
