First, mix ½ cup of baking soda with ½ cup of water and whisk it into a paste. An extra tip: put on your rubber gloves in order to save your manicure, which could be ruined because of the much rubbing job you need to do!

Once you are ready to start, take some vinegar and start cleaning the inside of the washing machine as well as all around the outside with it. Another extra tip: use some vinegar with citrus or mint aroma, if you don’t like the typical vinegar smell as most people do.

Continue with the cleaning. Take the gasket next… it’s the rubber circle the door closes into. Spray vinegar inside it and use a cloth to wipe it out. You will have to hold the pliable rubber back so that you can wipe the nooks and cranny better.

After cleaning the rubber, take a toothbrush and clean the metal rim next to the rubber.

You will see the grossest thing in your life ever right here. Most of the dirtiness collects here and the worst is that it is washing around with your clothes and towels and… all the time. Awful, right?

Next, clean the filter. Third extra tip: put a sponge underneath the filter little door, because a little water always runs out and you don’t want to make a flood on your floor, do you? Pull out the filter and start cleaning it. Sprinkle baking soda on it and start scrubbing of all the scum that is accumulated right there using a toothbrush. Once it is clean, put it back inside.

Take the paste you firstly made (the one with the baking soda and water) and pour it into the washing dispenser. Then pour 1 cup of vinegar and close the washing machine door. Turn on the machine to wash. Use the hottest temperature possible for better results. Once it runs a full circle turn it off and open to see the results. You will see your washing machine looking and smelling much better than before. Repeat this procedure at least once a month.
