Although initially stickers and labels on fruits and vegetables seem to have no meaning or sense, they have more features than the price tab.Actually by reading the code you can determine whether the fruit is genetically modified, organically grown or produced with chemical fertilizers, fungicides or herbicides.
Here are the basics of what you need to know and what do they mean
1. The 4 digits code starting with the number 3 or 4 – there is pesticide spraying
– The stickers that begin with the numbers 3 or 4 and have a total of four numbers are showing us that the products was cultivated by factory farm, it is probably possible that they used artificial fertilizers.. This means that this product was sprayed with chemical pesticides. Before you consume, wash them well.
2. The product has 5 numbers starting with 9 – ORGANIC
If there are five numbers in the code, and the code begins with number 9 the product is organic. The last numbers of the code indicate what kind of vegetable or fruit in question. For example all bananas are marked with the code 4011 and the organic organic banana would be 94011
3. The code has 5 numbers starting with 8 – genetically modified fruit or vegetable
-If There are five numbers in the PLU code, and the number starts with 8, this shows that this product is genetically modified. For example, the code for bananas in this case is 84011. It is impossible to eat organic food that grown from genetically modified seeds.
By the way the glue used to attach the stickers are considered food, but not the stickers.
Hope you will watch out more from now.
